Celebrating the sweet soul of Odisha — one shared table, three categories, families from across North America.
Every Odia kitchen has its own version of pitha — the steamed, fried, or baked rice and lentil preparations that mark almost every festival and family gathering. The Pitha Pratijogita brings those countless family recipes together onto one shared table at the annual OSA (Odia Society of Americas) convention.
Contestants bring their grandmother’s arisa pitha, their own fusion experiments, or their child’s very first attempt — and a panel of judges, alongside the whole community, gets to taste a small piece of Odisha in every entry.
| Category | Who It’s For | What to Bring |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional | Adults and families honoring classic family recipes | Time-honored pithas made the way your family has always made them — arisa, podo pitha, kakara, chitau, and beyond |
| Fusion | Cooks who want to experiment | Creative reinterpretations of pitha that blend Odia tradition with new flavors, techniques, or presentations |
| Youth | Children and teens | A young cook’s first (or favorite) pitha — effort and enthusiasm celebrated as much as technique |
